Gus Alexander receives Herman J. Blake Award from Oakes College

Class of 2016 graduate Augusta (Gus) Alexander received the Herman J. Blake Award, named for the founding provost of Oakes College who combined the highest level of scholarship with a boundless commitment to service and social justice. In making the award, Provost Regina Langhout called Gus “a bridge builder, who is always willing to learn more and critically reflect on herself.”  Gus was lauded for her anti-racist and environmental campus service, passions she pursued on her full time field study working with Human Impact Partners in Oakland, California where she engaged in advocacy research conducted research to support advocacy work of community based organizations facing gentrification and displacement. Post-graduation, Gus is working as an executive assistant to Van Jones, with future plans to pursue a combined graduate degree in public health and public policy.
